Handgun Instructor Development
Students attending this course are taught the following;
- Instructional methods
- Teaching effective firearm operator skills
- Development of dynamic and practical range training
- Instructor Drills designed to enforce skills in the following areas of coaching:
- Accurate shot placement
- Multiple threat engagement
- Decision-making, Shooting on The Move
- Threat assessment
- Reduced light drills
- Tactical use of cover
- Concealed-carry training
- One-handed malfunction clearing
- Unconventional firing positions
- Verbal commands.
All students are required to make a classroom presentation and effectively demonstrate his or her knowledge of the course content through written exam and a shooting skills proficiency course.
All students are required to bring the following equipment to the course. Upon registration, a complte lilst of other essential items will be provided
- Back-up or off-duty firearm and equipment. May be a duty pistol or revolver.
- Holster may be IWB, ankle, paddle, fanny-pack, or other suitable concealed carry holster. At least one magazine pouch and 3 magazines or speedloaders are required.
- Cover garment for concealed carry range exercises.
- 800 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition.
- 400 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition (for off-duty pistol).
MP-5 Instructor Development
This challenging 5-day instructor certification course focuses on development of instructor skills in the use and application of the MP-5 sub-machinegun. Students will learn about methods of instruction, lesson plan development, establishing standards drills, qualification course development, running live-fire courses of fire and how to apply these techniques in classroom and live-fire presentations. Students will be required to make an evaluated classroom presentation and live-fire range presentation using these techniques for instructor certification. Upon completion of this course the student will possess the skills and knowledge necessary to instruct, evaluate, test and certify qualified operators in the safe use and deployment of the MP-5 and UMP sub-machinegun. Students that successfully pass the instructor standards drills, qualification course, presentation evaluations and written test are eligible to receive instructor certification.

- Firearms safety.
- Methods of instruction and lesson plan development.
- Nomenclature of the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Disassembly and re-assembly of the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Preventive maintenance and cleaning of the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Function checking the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Mechanical operation of the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Use tactical sling systems.
- Sight adjustment and zeroing.
- Fundamentals of shooting the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Loading, unloading and reloading the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun.
- Operating the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun during semi-automatic fire.
- Operating the MP-5 / UMP sub-machinegun during controlled automatic fire.
- Malfunction clearance techniques.
- Transition to back-up weapon system.
- Cover drills.
- Movement off the line of force.
- Threat assessment and area scanning.
- Multiple target drills and engaging multiple threats.
- Drugged assailant and body armor defeating drills.
- Shooting positions - standing, squatting, kneeling and prone.
- Use of cover while moving and shooting.
- Shooting during low-light conditions.
- Shooting on the move.
- Static turns and pivots.
- Close Quarter Battle (CQB) techniques.
- Combined skills individual shoot-offs.
- Man vs. man stress course.
- Instructor standards drills.
- Instructor qualification course.
- Written examination.
- Instructor oral presentations.
- Instructor live-fire range presentations.
Course duration: 5 days (44 hours)
Course tuition: $ 800.00
Course student limit: 20
Student requirements: Note pad and pen, eye protection, ear protection, baseball type cap, duty belt with holster and magazine carriers, duty pistol with at least 2 magazines, MP-5 or UMP sub-machinegun with at least 2 magazines, sling, flashlight, knee pads, elbow pads, gun cleaning kit and body armor.
(Body armor is mandatory!)
Recommended equipment: Rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, hydration system, water, weapon-mounted flashlight and clothing suitable for contact with the ground.
Ammunition requirements: 1500 rounds of sub-machinegun ammunition and 100 rounds of handgun ammunition. (minimum)
